UV coating: innovation and breakthrough in power battery insulation materials
As the new energy vehicle industry is developing rapidly, the safety performance of power batteries has become a common focus of attention for manufacturers and consumers. Battery insulation materials, as a key barrier to ensure battery safety, are crucial to improving vehicle performance.
In recent years, with the emergence of high-voltage platform models of 800V and above, traditional PET blue film insulation solutions are facing severe challenges, and new UV-coated insulation materials are gradually becoming the new favorite of the industry with their excellent performance and environmental protection characteristics.
PET blue film, as a single-sided tape widely used in power battery cell coating, is favored for its good chemical resistance, tensile strength and insulation performance. However, as new energy vehicles have higher requirements for battery performance, the limitations of blue film in automated production, bonding performance and voltage resistance are gradually exposed.Especially in the pursuit of battery lightweighting and integration, the insufficient adhesion of blue film and the risk of breakdown under high voltage limit its application in the new generation of battery technology.
The emergence of UV-coated insulating materials has brought new hope to the power battery industry. This material was developed by BMW in cooperation with German coating manufacturer Lankwitzer. It is not only comparable to blue film in terms of dielectric strength, chemical resistance and mechanical strength, but also has a very high production efficiency as a UV light-curing material. The UV coating process does not require additional baking equipment and can complete spraying and curing in a few seconds, significantly improving production efficiency.
In addition, the seamless connection between the UV coating material and the battery provides more comprehensive protection for the battery, effectively preventing the risks of short circuit and thermal runaway.
Looking ahead, as the new energy vehicle market further expands, the performance requirements of power batteries for insulation materials will become more stringent. UV-coated insulation materials, with their environmental protection, high efficiency and high performance, are expected to become a key factor in promoting battery technology advancement and industrial upgrading.
