  Art restoration is a delicate and complex task, requiring conservators to employ a variety of techniques to detect and repair damage. UV-LEDs (ultraviolet light-emitting diodes), as an efficient and safe light source technology, have been widely used in this field in recent years. Their ability to reveal the microstructure of materials using UV light of varying wavelengths has helped conservators develop more effective restoration plans.

  Oil painting restoration involves a complex process involving the inspection and treatment of surface cracks, stains, and the adhesion of restoration layers. UV-LEDs, with their high-resolution spectral characteristics, allow restorers to observe these details more clearly, providing critical support for restoration work.

  To inspect cracks and stains on an oil painting, you'll need a UV-LED light source (with wavelengths of 365nm or 385nm, for example), a magnifying glass or microscope (for observing details), and recording tools such as a camera and notepad. Choose the appropriate UV wavelength, as different wavelengths have different penetration depths and effects on oil painting materials. For example, 365nm UV light is suitable for detecting cracks and stains on a painting's surface, while 385nm UV light is more suitable for deeper structural analysis. Then, illuminate the painting surface, aiming the UV-LED light source at the surface, adjusting the distance and angle to ensure even coverage. Then, use a magnifying glass or microscope to observe any cracks, stains, or repair layer. Use a camera to capture the location and shape of the cracks and stains, while also recording the gloss and color changes of the repair layer to determine its accuracy to the original.
