From gloss to skin feel: How does UV LED define the surface texture of high-end furniture?
A large-scale integrated home furnishing customization company.
Core Products:
- Cabinet doors, high-end office desktops, and panel furniture.
Pain Points:
- Traditional heat drying processes are not only time-consuming (requiring 24-48 hours for complete curing), but also prone to contamination of the paint surface by airborne dust during the long drying period when mass-producing high-gloss panels, resulting in a high scrap rate.
- Furthermore, clients urgently need to develop a trendy "matte finish" series, but traditional processes struggle to precisely control gloss levels.
We deployed multiple customized UV LED curing systems to complement their fully automated flatbed roller coating production line.
Multi-stage curing process:
- * The first stage uses low-power LEDs for "semi-curing," locking in the coating's leveling effect and ensuring a mirror-like finish on the high-gloss panel.
- The second stage uses high-intensity LEDs for instantaneous and complete curing, enhancing surface hardness.
Precise gloss control:
- For the "Matte" series, by adjusting the energy distribution of the UV LEDs and the initiator reaction rate, we help customers achieve a silky, fingerprint-resistant matte texture.
Cold light source integration:
- For engineered wood products (such as MDF and particleboard), the low-temperature characteristics of UV LEDs prevent warping and deformation caused by uneven heating.
✅ Application Scenarios and Results
- Cabinet Doors: Instant Renewal
Achieved "second-level" curing of a high-gloss effect. Immediately after production, products can be laminated for protection or assembled with drilled holes, reducing the scrap rate by 30%. - High-End Desktops: Enhanced Protection
A UV transparent varnish is applied after the wood grain paper veneer, forming a hardened protective layer similar to piano lacquer. Scratch resistance reaches 4H or higher, meeting the high-frequency use requirements of office furniture. - Upgraded Melamine-faced Boards: A high-transparency UV scratch-resistant coating was added to melamine-faced boards, significantly improving the product's resistance to damage during logistics and daily installation.
